María Mónica Gutiérrez known in her solo project as Montañera (Mountainess) has established herself as one of the most intense and unique voices of Colombia. With the experience of 9 albums in tow, this London-based singer and songwriter has traveled a thirteen-years trajectory with her bands Suricato (New Colombian Music), Ságan (Cosmo-natural Pop) and Montañera (Ambient Pop) that has taken her to Europe, the United States and Latin America. Invited to perform on stages as important as the Smithsonian Museum and Kennedy Center in Washington DC, a live act at KEXP in Seattle, SXSW in Austin, Lollapalooza and Festival Estéreo Picnic in Colombia, MaMA Festival in Paris, among others. Her music has appeared in 3 Netflix series and she has supported Kevin Johansen at Jazz Café, Silvana Estrada at St. Pancras Old Church, Aterciopelados at Electric Brixton, iLe at Lafayette, and Ana Tijoux at the Village Underground as part of La Linea Festival. She performed at the Southbank Centre last November, and will be part of Rally Festival this summer in London, UK.
Her soloist albums “Encarnación” (2017) and “Salvadora” (2020) have both received Honour Mention by the Ministry of Culture of Colombia, and she is a Marca Colombia Artist. Her 3rd solo album “A Flor De Piel” was released under the US label, Western Vinyl and with support from Help Musicians Foundation.
